On a map of China, Chengdu is located in the southwestern part of the country, serving as the capital of Sichuan Province. It is situated in the upper Yangtze River valley, positioned in the center of the fertile Sichuan Basin, also known as the Red Basin. Geographically, it lies between the high-altitude Tibetan Plateau to the west and the Daba Mountains to the northeast. On a city-level map, Chengdu is structured around a central hub at Tianfu Square, with the urban area expanding outward in a series of concentric ring roads—the First, Second, and Third Rings—intersected by major subway lines. To help travelers orient themselves, the city is approximately 10 kilometers south of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and serves as a major transportation gateway connecting eastern China to the western regions.
