where is the old part of chengdu

The old part of Chengdu is primarily centered around several historical and cultural reserves located within the city's central districts, most notably the Qingyang and Wuhou Districts. The most famous area is Kuanzhai Alley (Wide and Narrow Alleys), situated near Changshun Avenue in the Qingyang District; this area dates back to the Qing Dynasty and was once part of the "Shaocheng" or "Mancheng" city where imperial troops were quartered. Nearby, Wenshuyuan Street is recognized as the city's oldest neighborhood, housing the best-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu. Another significant historical hub is Jinli Ancient Street in the Wuhou District, which dates back to the Qin Dynasty and was a major commercial center during the Three Kingdoms period. Beyond the immediate city center, several well-preserved ancient towns serve as "living sand tables" of old Chengdu, such as Chengxiang Ancient Town in the northern Qingbaijiang area, and Huanglongxi Ancient Town located about 30 miles southeast of downtown in Shuangliu County. Together, these sites preserve the traditional Sichuan-style architecture, teahouse culture, and historical layouts that define the city's "ancient soul."
