where is chengdu city centre

The city centre of Chengdu is anchored by Tianfu Square, which serves as the city's primary geographical, political, and cultural heart. Located in the Jinjiang District at the intersection of the city’s major north-south and east-west thoroughfares, the square is the busiest area within the central Business District (CBD) and is often compared in status to Beijing's Tiananmen Square. It acts as a central transportation hub where Metro Lines 1 and 2 meet, and is surrounded by landmark institutions such as the Sichuan Science and Technology Museum, the Chengdu Museum, and the Sichuan Provincial Library. Extending east from Tianfu Square is the city's premier commercial zone, featuring the historic Chunxi Road pedestrian street and the modern luxury developments of Chengdu International Finance Square (IFS) and Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li. While the city has expanded significantly with the development of the Tianfu New Area CBD to the south, the traditional core remains centered around the Tianfu Square and Chunxi Road corridor.
