Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan Province, located in the southwestern region of China. It is situated in the heart of the Sichuan Basin, specifically on the fertile Chengdu Plain, also known as the "Land of Abundance." Geographically, it lies in the upper Yangtze River valley and is bordered by the Longmen Mountains to the northwest and the Qionglai Mountains to the west, which serve as the foothills of the Tibetan Plateau. The city is approximately 1,640 feet (500 meters) above sea level and is bisected by several waterways, most notably the Jin and Fu Rivers. As a major sub-provincial city, it serves as a vital transportation and economic hub connecting eastern China with the western hinterlands.
