where does the fruit in chengdu come from

The fruit in Chengdu primarily comes from the agriculturally abundant Sichuan Basin, making the city effectively self-sufficient in food production. Much of the local produce, including sweet cherries, peaches, loquats, and plums, is grown on Longquan Mountain and in surrounding areas like the Eastern New Area, Jianyang, and Tianfu New Area. The region is also the native home to citrus, persimmons, and kiwis, particularly from the hills to the west of the city. While the vast majority of fruit at local markets is fresh and seasonal from the surrounding countryside or southern Sichuan—which provides sub-tropical fruits like mangoes and papayas—some domestic varieties are brought in from as far away as Hebei and Fujian provinces. Additionally, while Chengdu has few direct imported fruit distributors, items like bananas from the Philippines and Ecuador, as well as Southeast Asian varieties like durian and mangosteen, are typically funneled through major distribution hubs in Chongqing or Guangdong province.
