Chengdu does not share a border with any foreign country, as it is a landlocked city located deep within the interior of China. It serves as the capital of Sichuan Province in the southwestern part of the country and is situated in the heart of the Sichuan Basin. While it is often described as a gateway to regions like Tibet to the west, which eventually borders countries such as India and Nepal, Chengdu itself is entirely surrounded by other Chinese administrative divisions. Within Sichuan, Chengdu is bordered by several prefecture-level cities, including Deyang to the northeast, Ziyang to the southeast, Meishan to the south, Ya'an to the southwest, and the Ngawa (Aba) Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture to the northwest. Its central location within the nation means that any international border is hundreds of kilometers away.
