Direct flights from Shanghai to Chengdu typically take between 3 hours and 3 hours and 50 minutes, depending on the specific airline and airport routing. While the fastest nonstop services can reach Chengdu in approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes, most major carriers like China Eastern, Air China, and Sichuan Airlines average a flight time of about 3 hours and 15 minutes. The duration can vary slightly depending on whether you depart from Shanghai Pudong (PVG) or Hongqiao (SHA) and whether you arrive at Chengdu Shuangliu (CTU) or the more distant Tianfu International Airport (TFU). For travelers looking to save time, flying is the most efficient option compared to the high-speed train, which takes at least 10.5 to 12 hours to complete the journey.
