Chengdu tech roundup (July 5 2026 – July 11 2026)

Chengdu’s calendar last week was not only football and concerts. While Century City hosted the 11th Smart Industry Expo, the city’s capital and policy machine kept pushing the same three bets: AI for Science compute, embodied / physical AI, and showing up as China’s western digital hub ahead of APEC meetings later in July.

Here is a practical tech roundup for July 5–11, 2026.

The money story: chips, compute, and a Chengdu-born AI house

Silan Science & Technology — STAR Market IPO accepted

Silan Tianqiong scientific computer

Tuesday, July 7, Shanghai’s 思朗科技 (Silan / Logic Technology) had its STAR Market IPO application formally accepted by the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The company wants to raise about ¥4.43 billion, mostly for next-generation scientific-intelligence chips and high-performance fused compute systems.

Why Chengdu readers should care:

Read it as: local patient capital is not only writing cheques in Shenzhen/Shanghai — it is trying to anchor scientific compute hardware and scenarios inside Jinniu / the wider Chengdu stack.

Caveat worth keeping: Silan’s filings also show the classic hard-tech pattern — heavy R&D, still working through losses. Acceptance is not listing approval.

Xingfan Intelligence — another ¥300M+ round

Monday, July 6, 36Kr Sichuan reported that Chengdu-based 星凡智能 (Xingfan / 星凡星启) closed a new round of more than ¥300 million, led by Dingxu Investment, with Capcloud (开普云), Gaojie Capital, and Eucalyptus Capital participating.

The pitch is shifting from “token factory / GPU-adjacent compute sales” toward physical AGI infrastructure:

Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Chengdu, Xingfan is one of the clearer local proofs that the city’s AI story is not only model wrappers — there is a silicon + deployment layer trying to compound.

The floor show: 11th Chengdu Smart Industry Expo

July 9–11 at Century City New International Convention and Exhibition Center (Halls 2–3).

Theme: Digital Tianfu, Smart Future. About 23,000 m², seven zones (digital economy, AI, low-altitude economy, BeiDou applications, Xinchuang / cybersecurity, smart energy, smart city), ~250 exhibitors from 13 Sichuan cities plus firms out of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and elsewhere. Names on the floor included Dongfang Electric, Tongwei, iFlytek, Unitree, Zhongke Xingye, and storage / energy players.

Twelve side forums ran in parallel — low-altitude + spatiotemporal intelligence, compute–power (算电) matching, BeiDou scale-up, smart energy — and the expo sat next to the 3rd Navigation Technology & Applications Conference, the 2026 Smart Energy Conference, and Sichuan’s South / Southeast Asia business cooperation track. That packaging matters: Chengdu is selling itself as a western node for digital trade + industrial AI, not a consumer-gadget fair.

What actually looked new on the floor

Immersion liquid-cooled AI all-in-one boxes. Zhongke Xingye (Sichuan) with Shanghai Linke Zhihua staged a global-style launch of four immersion liquid-cooled AI integrated machines. Servers sit in dielectric fluid; the pitch is denser rack power without a full CRAC farm — closer to a micro compute room in a box. In a week when everyone is arguing about AI electricity and heat, this was the booth that local media kept dragging visitors toward.

Embodied demos that are starting to look like products.

China News Service’s closing note on the expo was blunt: the interesting shift is from spectacle to workflow — coffee, rescue, and power dispatch rather than dancing humanoids for the camera.

Embodied intelligence: Chengdu’s scale bet

Just as the expo week opened, city and provincial outlets refreshed the national 2026 humanoid / embodied-intelligence real-scene training special action story:

Whether the year-end “10,000” number lands is a separate question. The signal for operators and founders is clearer: Chengdu wants deployment density and datasets, not another empty “AI park” plaque.

Diplomacy calendar: APEC digital week is coming here

July 10, MIIT held a Beijing briefing: China will host the APEC 2026 Digital and AI Ministerial Meeting and Digital Week in Chengdu, July 16–24.

Rough shape of the week:

Themes on the agenda: AI enablement across health, education, transport, agriculture, industry and culture; meaningful digital connectivity; digital inclusion and skills. China says it will also float an Asia-Pacific digital-enablement casebook and discuss the APEC TEL strategic action plan (2026–2030).

For Chengdu’s tech scene this is not abstract. It puts foreign officials, operators, and exhibitors in the same city that just finished a Smart Industry Expo — a short runway from demo halls to ministerial talking points.

Quiet context that still mattered last week

What to watch next

Theme Why it matters
Silan IPO process Tests whether “scientific intelligence” chips can clear STAR scrutiny and whether Chengdu’s co-invested compute centre becomes a real customer reference
Xingfan delivery Watch robot-side and space-compute shipments more than slogans
APEC Digital Week (Jul 16–24) Soft power + vendor access; casebook and TEL 2026–2030 text
Embodied deployment counts Official dashboards vs what factories and airports actually run overnight
Liquid-cooling adopters Whether immersion AI boxes leave the expo floor into Sichuan data rooms

If you work in tech here

Last week’s through-line was physical: scientific computers for drug discovery, immersion cooling for denser racks, robot dogs for smoke-filled rooms, coffee arms that already take Southeast Asia POs, and a city preparing to host APEC’s digital ministerial machinery.

That is a different Chengdu story than “another LLM meetup.” The open questions are the usual ones — unit economics, power, safety certification, and whether SOE-led scenes turn into repeatable revenue — but the direction of travel is hard to miss.
