Chengdu celebrates both China's national public holidays and a variety of unique local festivals that reflect its rich Sichuanese culture and history. In addition to the seven major national holidaysโNew Year's Day, the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Dayโthe city is home to over 150 local celebrations. Among the most notable is the Chengdu Grand Temple Fair, held during the Spring Festival at sites like Wuhou Shrine and Jinli to showcase traditional folk art and local snacks. Simultaneously, the annual Lantern Festival in Tazishan Park features elaborate lantern displays and Sichuan opera performances. Other significant regional events include the Dujiangyan Water-Releasing Festival on April 5th, which honors ancient irrigation pioneers; the Huanglongxi Fire Dragon Festival during the first lunar month; and the South China Snow and Ice Festival at Xiling Snow Mountain from January to March. Additionally, the city hosts the Chengdu International Peach Blossom Festival in mid-to-late March and the historic Chengdu Flower Fair at Qingyang Temple in February of the lunar calendar.
