Chengdu is located in the southwestern part of China, specifically serving as the capital of Sichuan Province. Geographically, it is situated in the heart of the fertile Sichuan Basin, also known as the Red Basin, between approximately 30°5'N to 31°26'N latitude and 102°54'E to 104°53'E longitude. On a map of China, it sits in the upper Yangtze River valley, bordered by the Qinling Mountains to the north and the Tibetan Plateau to the west. Within the province, Chengdu is positioned in central Sichuan, adjoining Deyang to the northeast, Ya'an to the southwest, the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture to the northwest, and Meishan to the south. The city is laid out in a series of concentric ring roads—the First, Second, and Third Rings—that radiate out from the central landmark of Tianfu Square.
