The Chengdu Hunters, a professional Overwatch League (OWL) team representing Chengdu, China, officially disbanded and exited the league in June 2023. The team's downfall was primarily precipitated by the expiration of the licensing agreement between Blizzard Entertainment and its Chinese distributor, NetEase, in January 2023, which rendered Overwatch 2 unplayable in mainland China. Following this shutdown, the Hunters, owned by the livestreaming platform Huya, entered a period of inactivity and were eventually excluded from the 2023 OWL season while "contemplating its future direction." On June 20, 2023, the Overwatch League confirmed that the franchise had officially left the league. Most of the team's roster and staff moved on to other organizations or became free agents, marking the end of one of China's most popular expansion teams.
