As of 2024, Chengdu is no longer in lockdown. While the city experienced several major lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic—most notably in September 2022 when approximately 21 million residents were restricted to their homes—China abruptly abandoned its strict "Zero Covid" policy and associated lockdowns in December 2022. Since then, the country has shifted its management strategy, lifting quarantine requirements for inbound travelers and easing domestic travel restrictions. Current reports indicate that life in Chengdu has returned to normal, with a focus on economic recovery and a strong comeback in the tourism sector. There are currently no active lockdowns or significant movement restrictions in effect within the city.
