Chengdu this week (July 26 2026 – August 1 2026)

The heat wave finally broke. Chengdu is back in classic late-July mode — humid, rainy, and stadium-bound. Sunday opened with a late equaliser at Phoenix Hill and the close of Hou Minghao’s two-night run; the week ends with Phoenix Legend at Dong’an Lake, HYROX at Century City, and another Rongcheng home date stacked on the same Saturday.

Here is a practical roundup for July 26 – August 1, 2026.

Weather: cooler, wetter, umbrella weather

The 40°C furnace week is over. Chengdu’s latest local forecast into the weekend stays cooler and unsettled — peak July rainy-season pattern, not a heat spike:

Carry a compact umbrella and shoes with grip. Underpasses can pond after short bursts. Concert nights will still feel warm in the stands if the rain pauses, but the outdoor walk to Dong’an Lake is no longer a heat-risk problem — it is a wet-road problem.

Sunday openers: football thriller + Hou Minghao finale

Chengdu Rongcheng 2–2 Beijing Guoan

When: Sunday, July 26, 19:35
Where: Wuliangye Cultural and Sports Center professional football stadium (Phoenix Hill)

League leaders Chengdu Rongcheng hosted Beijing Guoan and trailed 0–2 after Zhang Yuning’s brace (52′, 70′), then clawed back through Felipe (87′) and a stoppage-time Sorokin header from a Wei Shihao throw-in (90+3′). Result: 2–2, a fourth straight league draw for Rongcheng, who still sit clear at the top.

If you were near Phoenix Hill that night, you already know the ride-hail mess. Treat it as a preview of Saturday’s home date stacked against other city-wide events.

Hou Minghao — “Belonging to Us…” night 2

When: Sunday, July 26, 18:00
Where: Wuliangye Cultural and Sports Center comprehensive gymnasium
Tickets: ¥399–1,599

Second and final Chengdu night of the tour (studio listing), overlapping the football kickoff next door. Same complex, two crowds, one wet Metro Line 5 / Line 17 exit rush.

The headline: Phoenix Legend takes Dong’an Lake

Phoenix Legend —「吉祥如意」2026

When this week: Friday–Saturday, July 31 – August 1, 19:00 (plus Sunday Aug 2)
Where: Dong’an Lake Sports Park main stadium
Tickets: roughly ¥380–1,380; real-name tickets via Damai / Piaoxingqiu / Yipiaoda (local times and prices)
Also booked: August 7–9 (second three-night block)

Six Chengdu nights in two blocks — the biggest stadium residency of the summer after the Jolin / Leon Lai stretch. Expect the usual Dong’an Lake concert transport playbook:

Do not rely on Metro Line 2 east (Damianpu → Longquanyi remains suspended). Do not plan to call a car at the stadium gates at exit. Leave early if rain is heavy — Longquan approaches flood easily.

A third public sale for leftover Jul 31–Aug 2 tickets was listed for July 29, 12:00 on local guides — confirm on Damai before you count on it.

Saturday stack: HYROX + Rongcheng vs Wuhan

HYROX Chengdu

When: Saturday–Sunday, August 1–2 (waves from early morning Saturday)
Where: Century City New International Convention & Exhibition Centre (世纪城路198号)
Tickets: hyrox.com / china.hyrox.com — spectator tickets are cheap; verify live pricing

Fitness racing across the Century City halls — Men from ~08:00, Pro divisions into the afternoon, Mixed Doubles and Relays later. Same complex that hosts ComiDay the following weekend, so treat this as a preview of Century City egress patterns under rain.

Chengdu Rongcheng vs Wuhan Three Towns

When: Saturday, August 1, 20:00
Where: Wuliangye Cultural and Sports Center professional football stadium (Phoenix Hill)
Tickets: WeChat mini-program 成都蓉城足球俱乐部 (real-name; foreigners often need club customer service for ID binding) — see the club site and local schedule guides

Another home night after Sunday’s late draw. If you are also chasing Phoenix Legend across town, pick one — Dong’an Lake and Phoenix Hill do not share a clean transit corridor on a wet Saturday night.

Midweek culture if you are skipping the stadium

Tian Jiaxin piano recital

When: Tuesday, July 28, 19:30
Where: China Performing Arts · Chengdu Grand Theatre

A quieter alternative to concert traffic — useful if you want a dry indoor evening while the rain settles into the middle of the week.

Sleep concert · 眠响集

When: Thursday, July 30, 19:30
Where: Chengdu City Concert Hall, chamber hall

Immersive “sound bath” programme marketed as urban sleep / nature-healing — copper gongs, rain sticks, singing bowls. Good for the wet Thursday when outdoor plans feel pointless.

SLIXS a cappella (Germany)

When: Friday, July 31, 19:30
Where: Chengdu City Concert Hall
Tickets: about ¥80–480

Same night as Phoenix Legend night 1 — so if you want live music without Dong’an Lake logistics, this is the central alternative.

Spirited Away / Hisaishi anime concert

When: Saturday, August 1, 14:30
Where: Chengdu City Concert Hall, chamber hall

Afternoon anime-score programme — useful if you have kids, or if you are saving energy for Phoenix Legend / football that evening.

Ongoing exhibitions (still worth the trip)

Looking past Saturday

Phoenix Legend continues Sunday, August 2, then returns August 7–9. ComiDay 30 is August 8–9 at Century City (halls 2–9; ~¥80 via Bilibili 会员购) — see the official ComiDay Weibo and ignore older Bendibao pages still listing Jul 25–26.
