Chengdu this week (July 19 2026 – July 25 2026)

Chengdu has gone from arena crowds to its hottest days of the year, and the week is not slowing down. Jolin Tsai opened with two nights at Dong’an Lake; the temperature then climbed past 40°C; and Saturday brings another split between two arena concerts, theatre, and smaller live music.

Here is a practical roundup for July 19–25, 2026.

Weather: two more furnace days, then storms

The heat is the first thing to plan around. Chengdu reached a citywide high of 42.2°C on Tuesday, July 21, while multiple districts were under red high-temperature warnings. City health and meteorological offices also flagged elevated heat-related heart risk for July 22–24, especially across central and eastern districts.

The official seven-day outlook points to a sharp change:

Until Thursday, treat 11:00–18:00 as indoor time. Carry water and electrolytes, use sunscreen, and do not count on shade making a long walk safe. From Friday, swap the sun plan for a storm plan: compact umbrella, shoes with grip, and extra travel time. Short downpours can flood underpasses and slow ride-hailing even when the rain over your block looks manageable.

The week opened loud — and hot

Jolin Tsai — PLEASURE

When: Sunday–Monday, July 19–20, 19:00
Where: Dong’an Lake Sports Park main stadium
Tickets: about ¥490–1,690

Jolin’s two-night Chengdu stop dominated the start of the week. Gates opened from 17:00, and the important venue detail was main stadium, not the multi-function gymnasium that hosts Leon Lai on Saturday.

Dong’an Lake’s newer concert transport setup is now the sensible default: Metro Line 30 to Longquanyi Railway Station South and a feeder bus, K6/K7 BRT to Dong’an Lake, or one of the event-day direct buses from Yinghui Road, Shuangqiao Road, Niushikou, and Chengdu East Railway Station. Do not plan to call a car beside the stadium immediately after the show.

Important: Metro Line 2 east (Damianpu → Longquanyi, six stations) remains suspended for HSR construction into autumn. Do not navigate to Dong’an Lake as if Line 2 still reaches Longquanyi.

Ding Yuxi — XICREATE ft. YOU

When: Sunday, July 19, 19:00 — second Chengdu night
Where: Wuliangye Cultural and Sports Center comprehensive gymnasium, Phoenix Hill
Tickets: official tiers were ¥520–1,720

Ding Yuxi’s first two-night solo concert run closed at Phoenix Hill while Jolin was filling Dong’an Lake across town. It was a useful preview of Saturday: Chengdu can have two major arena crowds on opposite sides of the city at the same hour.

Also wrapping Sunday–Monday

If you still see those beer or expo listings advertised after their end dates, ignore them.

Thursday: a startup and technology afternoon

Startup World Cup 2026 — Chengdu Regional

When: Thursday, July 23, 14:30–17:30
Where: Chengdu Ziyuan Hotel, Jingrong Town, Pidu
Entry: complimentary, with advance registration and limited seats

Nine finalists pitch to a jury of investors and industry leaders, with the regional winner advancing through the Startup World Cup system toward the global final and its US$1 million investment prize. It is one of the week’s more internationally legible business events, but Jingrong Town is a real cross-city trip from central Chengdu — allow a generous return window.

The same afternoon also has a RISC-V Technology Salon (13:00–17:30, detailed venue released after registration), focused on storage, AI, industrial control, and information security. Most local technical and founder events are Chinese-first unless the organiser explicitly says otherwise.

Friday night: Bridge — plus an expat cocktail stop

Bridge — 77% Tour

When: Friday, July 24, 20:00–22:00
Where: CH8 Green Tree Performing Arts Center, Tianfu International Animation City
Tickets: ¥248 general / ¥368 VIP

Chongqing rapper Bridge brings the 77% Tour to CH8 for the clearest club-scale headline show of the week. It is a much smaller room than Saturday’s arenas and a better option if you want a standing crowd rather than assigned stadium seating.

THE CONSUL guest shift @ Mamacita

When: Friday, July 24, 20:00–00:00
Where: Mamacita — No. 8 Annex, 9 Dachuan Lane, Jinjiang

A one-night Asia social-club takeover with guest bartenders. Easy to pair with dinner nearby if you are skipping CH8.

Friday is also when the heat is expected to break into more widespread rain. Budget for wet last-mile walking and slower cars after midnight.

Saturday: Leon Lai vs Hou Minghao — plus smaller alternatives

Leon Lai — ROBBABA 2026

When: Saturday, July 25, 19:00
Where: Dong’an Lake Sports Park Multi-function Gymnasium
Tickets: ¥588–1,688

Leon Lai takes the indoor arena at Dong’an Lake, not the main stadium used by Jolin earlier in the week. The set is built around his Cantopop catalogue and later electronic-pop era, drawing a different generation from the other major show across town.

Use public transport. Event-day direct buses, K6/K7, and return shuttles are worth checking through the Chengdu Bus account that afternoon; operating times move with each concert. Heavy rain is possible, so leave more time than the usual Longquan calculation.

Hou Minghao — “Belonging to Us…”

When: Saturday, July 25, 19:00; second show Sunday, July 26 (18:00)
Where: Wuliangye Cultural and Sports Center comprehensive gymnasium, Phoenix Hill
Tickets: ¥399–1,599

Hou Minghao starts a two-night Chengdu run at Phoenix Hill. Saturday’s show lands inside this guide; Sunday’s follow-up overlaps with Chengdu Rongcheng’s home match nearby, making the July 26 transport situation considerably harder.

For Saturday, use Metro Line 5 toward Dujianian / Jiudaoyan, or Line 17 to Fenghuangshan Sports Park. Keep your return route in mind before entering the arena.

If neither arena is your thing

Art and museums for the hot and wet hours

This is a particularly good week to use exhibitions as weather shelter:

For the 40°C days, choose a central museum rather than treating an outlying day trip as an afternoon outdoor walk. On Friday and Saturday, check closing notices before crossing the city; severe rain can affect access even when a venue remains open.

A calendar correction: ComiDay 30

Older Chengdu event pages still show ComiDay 30 on July 25–26 at Century City. More recent posts tied to the official ComiDay account now point to August 8–9. Do not make a special trip to Century City this weekend based only on an old listing; confirm the latest date on ComiDay’s official account first.
